View photographs of an nostalgic train ride from Knysna to George and a museum that would turn back the clock. View new photographs of how to get a passport to where we all want to go, some VIP's and how I met this character who burst into an Irish song.
Off to South Africa on an exotic trip to an enchanting land with Slattery's and the Sunday Times. As I had been told many a time by couples who had went there on honeymoon it lived up to my expectations as a photographer's paradise. Above on top left you see a dog called Nuisence who was much loved by sailors in Simon's Town during the Last War..even had flowers left at base for Remembrance Day. Next photograph is of Table Mountain which overlooks Cape Town...some evenings as the sun is setting a blanket of cloud comes rolling in over the top and locals call it a table cloth. Take the cable car up there and you will see sights to last a lifetime in one's memory. Penguins have a colony near Simon's Town on the Cape. We visited Silvermine Game Reserve and met up with some local marine's from the naval base nearby who were having a Christmas Party. Would loved to have remained as it looked set to be a lively session. In Greenmarket Square each day it is choc o block with vendors and in the evening they all pack up and go and the pigions keep a sharp lookout from a vantage point high up on a street light for any goodies left over. Scroll down for more photographs.
Above you see Gordon's Bay and on the right is a scene at the Waterfront and Table Mountain in the background...a place to have dinner or a coffee at a price that would not break the bank by Irish standards. It was a joy to sit down and listen to music and you'd want to be made of stone not to tap your feet and watch the dancers swing in a spontaneous show of talent. That band on the right would put Herb Albert in the shade. Had a version of Guantanamara that left me for six. As we head home to the hotel, here is the scene that will greet you as you leave the Waterfront area. Final photograph below is of group from Ireland after the wine tasting session. What a superb job guides from Atlas Co. Joanne and Greg did getting us all away on time. More photographs will appear of the trip in about one week and you will be in for a surprise with some quirky signs etc. that came to my attention. Go there if you can but do not stray too far from Cape Town unless you fly, as distances can be quite staggering. Click here and add a comment on my guestbook. They will help to improve the content of the site.
