On Wednesday, 25th. February, 2004, I took myself off in the car and headed for the Nine Stones, a landmark point at the foot of Mount Leinster. about 8 miles east of Borris, Co. Carlow. It was a very cold day and I could see that the top of the mountain had a scattering of light snow. I went on a journey of about one hour and 10 minutes to the top...a journey I had undertaken about 10 years ago but still well worthwhile. At the top as you see above, I was intercepted by a member of the local Garda who was on duty...Gda Lar Gilmartin. So easy for him as he was in the warm Garda car and here I was after loosing many calories pounding the tarmac on the way up. Mount Leinster is 2610 feet hight and the mast on top is 350 feet. Built in 1963. Photograph below on the right shows how cold it was at the top with the snow on the cable holding the mast. Scroll down to see complete selection.

Final photograph is of the mountain in the fading light taken on the way down near Tomduff Cross. Click here and do add a comment on my guestbook, comments are really welcome.
