Top photograph is of some of the staff on the bridge of the ship, on the left is John and on the right is Kevin who looks after the security end of things. We arrived in Reunion Island and this island's capital St. Denis looks more like a French town with its War Memorial and town hall, road signs etc. There is an extinct volcano in the centre and is now inhabited by locals. Only way out is by helicopter. Further down you can see ladies making baskets in the Waterfront in Port Louis, capitol of Mauritius. Was the home at one time of Arab Sailors until the French and British got interested. They use the Euro here as normal currency. Went to photographic museum where I met Tristan the owner and he showed me a 19th. century slide projector, complete with focusing ring. In the square is the Cathedral. This place has beaches and snorkelling to die for with swimming like it was a bath.
Photographs below this text are of some sleepy frends who can live to more than 200 yers. You see some fellow catching large eels? As they had rain for a day before, the police open the sluices and let the water out of the reservoir, so some of the bright local lads see this as a source of a meal and wait and catch the eels with a hook as they come down the rapids. Exciting stuff I tell you but not always are they quick enough. Sometimes the eel gives them a lash and escapes. Sunsets can be stunning in the Indian Ocean. Now along came St. Patrick's Day and I was not expecting much. Well we were as proud as punch to be Irish that day, everyone wore green, the restaurants were decked out in green and I said how can a nation of just 4m. have such an effect on the world and nationalities from the four corners of the world? Can anyone tell me when is St. David's or St. George's Day? Those so called "bright" misguided republicans do not do our country or its people any justice amongst right thinking folk by their actions.
Well onto the capital of the Seychelles...Port Victoria. Here is an island, Mahe which is just full of exotic vegatation. You can see the city and its port and sports stadium from near where a Mission existed back in the 1800's. I have photographed the sign which you can read below. On this island churches have two roofs overlapping the other in order to allow cool air to percolate inwards. Visited two other islands Praslin and La Digue. La Digue residents have a slower mode of transport as its a very small island. Felt sorry for the Ox in the heat. Some large granite boulders at one beach give the impression of a moon landscape.
