The Golden Gate Bridge was opened in 1937. the two foundations of the twin towers were sunk 100 feet below the surface of the sea. The roadway is 220 feet above the water and the towers rise 746 feet aboe the sea. The bridge is 1.7 miles wide and the centre span is 4,200 feet wide. it is the world's thrid largest single span bridge. When walking over the bridge one is struck by the signs for counselling and emergency telephones should one decide to depart this life.
