I met Dickie back in the late 70s in Belfast with the Miami Showband along with my name sake Brian, and I think he was a victim at Newry .He played Gallaghers entertainments club then and i was in charge of lights.....whoopee I was about 12 years of age. Dickie and the rest of the band made a deep impression on me. Bring back the showbands to Ireland. Fantastic,

Shane & I can not tell you how much we enjoyed Saturday. You both looked stunning. Everything from the mass to the meal right through to early hours of the morning was perfect, except maybe our dancing after 12!!!! It was a fantastic day with lots of laughing involved. Both families could not have made us feel more welcome and part of your special day. It was great to see the University bunch and meet all their lovely girlfriends. Dear Dickie, I'm the guy who shook hands with you earlier this week, when we met briefly in the Internet Cafe, in Fuengirola. Like yourself I play home & away golf, except that my handicap is 20, and you will recall my philosophical comment that the best golf shot I will ever make is the next one ! Seriously though, I know that you have to cope with illness and disability in your personal family life, and had we both more time in the Internet Cafe, I would have given you a copy of my "Prayer to Jesus of Divine Mercy", which features on the rear side my photograph of an actual image that first appeared on a Wooden Chair in our Limerick home after the death of Pope John Paul II, and and endures to this day. I can tell you that last August I had major surgery for prostate cancer, and beforehand during one long sleepless night I had a "mental phone call" from Pope JPII, assuring me that there was no need for worry, because he would be helping my Surgeon. I'mk glad to say that the surgery was a complete success, and I am certain that the Pope delivered on his promise, because my Surgeon is very pleased with my progress to date. I've commissioned, and personally financed non-commercial, Church approved, religious Website " www.popejohnpaul2helpus.com" which was launched last week. It includes two Prayers, being the one I mentioned earlier, and also a "Prayer to Pope John Paul II". They can both be downloaded and printred from my Website. I am planning to expand the Website to include up to 25 non-English languages listed in Section 8. I will be ever grateful if you know of any volunteer translation persons willing to freely donate the required time and expertise. By way of appreciation each person's name and contact address will be permanently listed in both the English language and the non-English lanfuage versions of my Website. He/she will also receive my gift of the +900 pages Book, "WITNESS TO HOPE", by George Weigel, which is the authentic biography of Pope John Paul II. Finally, I should mention that although JPII was a great all round sportsman in his early life, and in spite of my many SOS's to him, he has not yet managed to cure my terrible "slicing addiction" on the Golf Teebox !. Beautiful photos. I am researching family history and my grandmother Mary Walsh came from Thomastown, and married my grandfather James Quinn (early 20th century). The Quinns appear to have had "something to do with horses". They then moved to Drougheda. Anyone know anything about them? Great grandfather Quinn appears on a postcard of The Mall in Thomastown (looks like some time in the 19th century).
